Chevrolet Corvette Z06 2009

The 427 is built with plenty of racing bits inside. Hardware highlights include a 10.5 quart dry-sump oiling system, high-lift cam, aluminum flat-top pistons, high compression, ported aluminum cylinder heads, titanium connecting rods and intake valves and hydroformed exhaust headers.

The shifter has a short throw, and the gearing is well suited to the motor’s massive range. There is a comfortable excess of power available at any time in the first four gears.

The face view shows a functional hood scoop above, a splitter down below, and a wide-mouth, blacked out, egg crate grille. The profile features new Z06 “spider-design” 10-spoke wheels, capped by the rounded contour of the fixed roof.

The Z06 features a 7.0-liter V8 engine that produces 505 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. A short-throw six-speed manual transmission is standard. According to Chevrolet, the Z06 has a top speed of 198 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The EPA reports that the Corvette Z06 nets a city/highway fuel economy of 15/24 mpg.
