The name of the prototype is not casual. PhoeniX or Phoenix, refers to the bird of the same name, a mythological figure that every 500 years was consumed by fire and then rise from the ashes . Well, that's what Saab is doing. Rising from the ashes with a new lineup and projects that make what the future of the firm.
Responsible for giving life to this PhoeniX Concept has been the American Jason Castriota , the current head of design at Saab, whose name is linked recently to designs such as the Maserati Gran Turismo or the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano . Perhaps because of its roots, the car has seductive lines, floating rear pillars (to echo the past aeronautical brand) and a door opening system as gull wings.
The truth is that the Saab PhoeniX Concept is not a model to be produced, but serves as an exercise to advance how they might be giving way to new models. It represents the essence of future Saab , but not many items that we see in the concept will reach production. The technology headlamps LED or grill with large Saab logo are among the details that other models could reach the street.
In the bowels of the prototype lies the possible reason for a capital X in the name of the project. The PhoeniX Concept mounted the new wheel-drive brand or eXWD . While the front wheels are propelled by an engine 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol, source BMW and 200 hp, the rears are powered by a small electric motor of 34 hp.
