During development, BMW Motorsport relies on ultra-modern test beds, its own test track situated in Aschheim, Bavaria, and the experience of its in-house experts. In addition, privateer teams may specify their own individual parts from the respective racing kits according to the series they are competing in.
The high-revving 414bhp 4 . 0-lire V8 from the road car will remain untouched, but thanks to a sparce cabin, racing suspension and the use of lighter but stronger materials for many of the components. 380kg has been cut from the kerbweight so it should be nimbler in the corners and more potent in a straight line.
Among others, it had a carbon fibre roof, an SMG II transmission, 90-degree fixed front seats and semi-slick tyres. However, BMW says a CSL is not on the agenda for the E92.
