The model chosen by the Japanese manufacturer Honda Gold Wing is 1,800 cubic centimeters. Airbag is fitted into a fake deposit, located between the seat and handlebars of the bike, in front of the pilot.
This module further includes an airbag, an inflator and a control unit (ECU), which calculates the force of impact thanks to two sensors on each side of the front fork of the motorcycle.
When the bike hits a car or an obstacle, these sensors calculate the change in speed of the motorcycle and send the data to the ECU. The airbag computer as with the riding car, determines the force of the collision and sends the inflator, if necessary, the order of inflate.
As tested in the security center of the brand in Japan, this whole process takes 0.060 seconds. The simulated accident was a collision between a Honda Accord side, standing, and a motorcycle traveling at 50 kilometers per hour.
The brand has not provided information about its dimensions or when the impact force is sufficient for the pilot overcomes the pressure of the bag and spray out of the bike, but the view is that it is a bag with a size rather than incorporating cars.
A motorcyclist can suffer two types of the accident: either by collision with another vehicle or either without third-party intervention. According to a study by the Foundation Winthertur, with data from the last 10 years, in 69.9% of motorcycle accidents involving other vehicles, especially car's Collision or diagonal is the most common, occurring in 52 % of cases, while the side impact and represent the powerful blow for the remaining 48%.
