Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio 2017

The Stelvio is the first all-terrain vehicle in Alfa Romeo. It measures 4.68 meters in length; by size, is an alternative to models like the Volkswagen Tiguan, the BMW X3, the Mercedes-Benz GLC or Porsche Macan. However, none of them can have an engine as powerful as the Stelvio.

The Quadrifoglio version, which is the only one that has been presented so far, has a gasoline engine biturbo six - cylinder vee, 2.9 liters and 510 hp (which also carries the Giulia Quadrifoglio ). Alfa Romeo has announced that there will be another version with a gasoline engine of four cylinders and 280 hp (which is also available in the Giulia), which among other technical features, has an electrohydraulic distribution system (MultiAir).

In both cases, the gearbox is an eight - speed automatic and type torque converter that is manufactured by ZF. The gears can be selected manually from some cams behind the steering wheel.

The traction of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is on four wheels; Alfa Romeo calls it Q4. Under normal conditions the whole torque is transmitted to the rear wheels, and when the system detects motor losses, it can send up to 50% to the front wheels. The shaft that transmits the force to the rear wheels is carbon fiber. The rear differential has a disc clutch that allows you to control the force of each of the rear wheels. At the moment we do not know if other versions can be acquired with two driving wheels.

Like other models of the brand, the Stelvio has a selector of driving modes (DNA). There are four possible modes: Dynamic, Natural, Advance Efficiency (contributes to fuel economy) and Race (focused on sports driving).

The system consists of the all-wheel-drive system, the driving modes, the active rear differential and the stability control. It is managed by an electronic control unit that Alfa Romeo calls CDC (Chassis Domain Control). According to the brand, this can act in critical situations avoiding, for example, the loss of control of the car.

Alfa Romeo has used aluminum in some components such as suspensions, some parts of the brakes (the discs are made of ceramic material in the Stelvio Quadrifoglio), the wheel arches and the tailgate.

Inside, there is an entertainment device (Connect 3D Nav), consisting of an 8.8-inch screen.
