Vehicular Natural Gas or CNG acronym refers to a type of fuel for vehicle use considered economic and environmentally clean, now is a sustainable alternative in the world to replace the liquid fuel. Natural gas is a savings versus the use of petrol and / or diesel does not require costly refining processes and reduces operating costs.
Toyota Surfrider Camry Hybrid CNG
Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA, Inc. has partnered with the Surfrider Foundation to create a specially modified Camry Hybrid fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) , reflecting Toyota involvement of environmental care.
Specifications (preliminary) of Toyota Surfrider Camry Hybrid CNG:
- Powertrain: 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive ® Gasoline fuel system replaced by CNG system
- Estimated fuel economy: City / Highway / Combined = 32/24/33 (actual mileage may vary)
- Net power: Engine + Electric Motor + Generator + Power Storage = 170 HP
- CNG system: Two tanks compound type 4 Lincoln - plastic tanks with carbon cladding located in the area of the spare wheel; 3,600 psi Maximum
- Capacity: Proposed eight gallons of gasoline
- Range: 250 + miles
Toyota states that the current benefits of CNG are enhanced by changing market conditions and an increase in consumer environmental awareness. As a transportation fuel, natural gas is a clean, safe alternative to gasoline. It can potentially reduce U.S. dependence foreign oil and reduce vehicle operating costs. At present, over 99 percent of the natural gas used in the U.S. comes from domestic sources and other American sources.

After the conclusion of the 2009 SEMA Show Toyota will deliver a production version of the Surfrider Camry Hybrid CNG Surfrider Foundation. The vehicle will be displayed at numerous outreach campaigns, education programs and beach conservation events.
The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of oceans, waves and beaches.
