Last month This safety innovation was named an innovative product for the winner of Popular Mechanics, part of the seventh annual Breakthrough Award of the magazine, advanced security system is designed to help reduce head injuries, neck and the thorax of the rear seat passengers, children often and more passengers may be more vulnerable to this type of injury.
Advances in inflation of the airbag and seat belt construction methods have enabled Ford and its suppliers to develop inflatable safety belts are designed to deploy on the vehicle occupant's torso and shoulder in 40 milliseconds in the case of an accident. The new second row of bands work like traditional belts in daily use and inflate when sensors indicate a collision event.
Each strap tubular air bag inflates with cold compressed gas flowing through a specially designed buckle from a cylinder located under the seat. The new Ford Flex also has available radar enabled adaptive cruise control (ACC) and collision warning with brake support system and Blind Spot Information (BLIS ®) with Cross Traffic Alert. These help drivers avoid accidents technologies with the radar to detect the relative position of other vehicles and warn the driver with a combination of visual and audio alerts.
CCS technology uses advanced radar to scan the vehicles in front of Flex to 20 times per second. The sensor can detect vehicles up 150 meters away and detect speed changes as small as ¼ mph. When activated the system, cruise control works as normal with the exception of being able to slow the car when the vehicles in front are found to be slower. When traffic has cleared, the vehicle returns to the set speed. Four distance units accommodate a wide range of driving styles and road conditions. The driver can adjust the distance, speed and the time interval between vehicles.
