U3-X-Honda Advanced Technology

The electric unicycle Honda U3-X is a one-person transport proposal, to cover distances that are long and heavy to do it on foot, and in addition, the car in big cities, or to help offset in large buildings. It is small and lightweight; it is less than 10 kg.

It is self-stabilizing (to avoid balance problems) and hides, dejected; a carrying handled on top, two padded concave disks that serve as seating and two supports, as a pedal, footrest. Honda U3-X includes an electric motor and a small battery that allows you to have a range of approximately one hour.

In fact, this unicycle is proposed as an integrated solution with the small prototype electric utility Honda EV-N concept, two doors and retro design, inspired by the utility, and classic Japanese brand Honda N360, 1967, can remember a little British Mini, the 127 Spanish, or other models of the time.

The EV-N concept would unicycling integrated into the inside of the door panel, so that would be a complement to the car, when it should be left parked away from the destination, thanks to unicycle can go the distance with less effort. The unicycle U3-X also can have independently of the car.

The steering control, trajectory and speed are similar to Segway system, tilting the body to the side to which we want to move (to move forward, back to back, etc.); and according to tilt more or less to control the speed.

The drive system is quite ingenious, and besides allowing longitudinal movements, forwards or backwards, also enables transverse movements, without having to rotate any address system, it suffices to tilt the body to the right or left. The "wheel" is a double system. It comprises a ring of multiple small wheels can also rotate.

This small wheel can be blocked, and turn the main wheel or large wheel (longitudinal displacement) or crash the big wheel, and tiny wheels rotate independently (transverse displacement). In addition, you can also combine the two movements to scroll diagonally, thereby achieving unidirectional movement.

Perhaps you remember the Audi A0, a self-stabilizing monticule also electric, but with handlebars, wheel "conventional" and something bigger and heavier, which Audi introduced in late August, and led the Frankfurt Motor Show, with the same intention of being a complement to get around town.

The slight downside is Honda system seems to work very well indoors, but due to its system of "wheel" unidirectional might have a problem on uneven floors. In the video you can see it in operation.
